Haruomi Hosono is a Japanese instrumentalist, singer, songwriter and record producer considered to be one of the most influential musicians in Japanese pop music history. His work is recognized as a profound influence over music internationally, and he is personally credited as a major inspiration over the City Pop and Shibuya-kei genres.
While this record is often credited primarily to Hosono, it is more accurately a collaborative effort with Shigeru Suzuki and Tatsuro Yamashita, each a titan of Japanese popular music in their own right. The record also features performances from Ryuichi Sakamoto and Yukihiro Takahashi, who would soon form Yellow Magic Orchestra with Hosono. As such, Pacific is a seminal album in any collection of Japanese music.
